School Day:

The doors will be open at 8:30 to allow children to come into school earlier should they wish and the children will leave at 3:15.

We would encourage the children to enter the classroom at 8:30 so they can make the best use of their Target Time.  This also helps them to engage and be ready for their learning when the first lesson of the day starts. The register will be taken promptly at 8.45am.

General Items Required for School Day:

  • Water bottle
  • Pencil case including a fountain pen with spare ink cartridges (children in KS2 are expected to write in fountain pen unless specified otherwise)
  • Wellington boots (specifically needed for Forest School sessions and outdoor learning)
  • Coats (cold weather)
  • Sunhats and sun cream (hot weather)
  • Art apron

Break Down of Week

Core teaching of Mathematics and English will be taught on a regular basis each morning Monday - Thursday. These lessons will help the children to expand their learning and build upon existing knowledge with progressive steps to cater for individual's needs. During maths sessions Mrs Harper will be focusing on the number and calculation side of the curriculum at the beginning of the week and Mrs Tanner's focus will be on geometry on Thursdays. English sessions will provide strong links towards our term's topic and the wider curriculum as well as some isolated teaching that focuses on SPaG (spelling, punctuation and grammar). Afternoons and Fridays in Hedgehog Class provide children with an opportunity to learn about the wider curriculum whether this be topic related or otherwise.

For the duration of Summer 1, we will be finishing off our topic of the Stone Age to the Iron Age. We will be studying how people lived thousands of years ago, with knowledge ranging from how humans lived and ate to archaeological discoveries that give us information about how these people survived. We will also be looking at in detail how humans evolved from the Stone Age to the Iron Age (including the Bronze Age) and the differences to modern day living.

From Summer 2 we will be turning our focus to the geography themed topic of: Rivers. This will focus on various areas such as: How rivers are formed, the journey of a river, the water cycle, famous rivers in the UK and across the world, architecture and settlements alongside rivers and rivers on maps.

Summer 1 & 2

For your information, below is a table of additional things to remember that happen on a weekly basis:

Things to Remember:
Mondays - Spellings given and tested (see link below and on homework page)
Tuesday

-  A focused times table task will be assigned on a Tuesday and Thursday that will take place in school, but children are expected to practise these outside of school also.

Wednesday

- PE lessons held on Wednesdays. Depending on the term this may be held in the morning or afternoon. Please ensure your child has their PE kit in school on this day.

- Mathletics Homework due to be completed

Thursday - A focused times table task will be assigned on a Tuesday and Thursday that will take place in school, but children are expected to practise these outside of school also.
Friday

- Fridays are known as Wider Curriculum Days where the children will be engaging in lessons of the curriculum that go beyond Maths and English. This will give them the opportunity to spend more time in different subject areas so they can become more involved within the depth and breadth of a subject and can broaden their investigative skills.

- Mathletics Homework Assigned

- Forest School sessions are held on a Friday afternoon, please refer to the School Newsletter or the school website to find out which dates are applicable to Hedgehogs.

You will notice that we have now moved onto a computer based homework system, however children are expected to read most days for pleasure. We would recommend that they read to an adult 3/4 times a week to help aid/develop their understanding.
